Sore throats are very common and usually nothing to worry about. They normally get better within a week.

Most are caused by minor illnesses such as colds or flu and can be treated at home.

Why this PGD?

The service observes best practice in antibiotic resistance awareness by treating only Strep A infections of the throat that have been confirmed by rapid test kits.

Treatment of confirmed Group A Streptococcal sore throat (confirmed by Centor score, and near patient testing using OSOM Strep A test). Phenoxymethylpenicillin is the treatment of choice.

Treatment of confirmed Group A Streptococcal sore throat (confirmed by Centor score, and near patient testing using OSOM Strep A test) in patients unable to take phenoxymethylpenicillin.
